The Perfect 6-Hour Boat Adventure: Here's Exactly How I'd Plan Your Day

If you give me six hours on the water, I can give you a day that feels like you were gone for much longer.

I'm Scott Fleischer, owner and captain of Bottoms Up Adventure Charters in Pompano Beach, Florida, and one of my favorite things about running private charters is that I don't have to give every group the same experience. If you're spending six hours with me, I want to use that time to create the kind of day you actually came to South Florida to enjoy.

Maybe that means private fishing in the morning, a Pompano Beach sandbar in the afternoon, and a sunset cruise to finish things off. Maybe your group couldn't care less about fishing and would rather spend the day swimming, snorkeling, paddleboarding, listening to music, and exploring the Intracoastal.

The beauty of a private boat charter is that we can build the day around you.

Here's exactly how I'd plan your six-hour adventure.

Hour One: Get Comfortable and Start Exploring

I don't want your trip to feel rushed from the moment you step aboard.

During the first hour, I'll get everyone comfortable, explain what we're doing, and start easing into the day. If your group has booked private fishing, this is when we'll start making our way toward the fishing grounds.

For families and first-time boaters, I take the time to make sure everyone understands what's happening. For groups of friends, bachelor parties, and bachelorette boat parties, this is usually when the music starts, everyone settles in, and the excitement builds.

Depending on what you've chosen, we might spend this first part of the trip:

  • Cruising along the Intracoastal Waterway.

  • Heading offshore for private fishing.

  • Looking for dolphins and other wildlife.

  • Exploring the coastline.

  • Getting everyone ready for a day of swimming and sandbar time.

I don't believe in rushing people through an itinerary just because the clock says we're supposed to be somewhere.

Hours Two and Three: Let's Do Something You'll Remember

This is where I like to make the middle of the trip count.

If you've booked private fishing, we'll spend some quality time offshore. One of my favorite things to watch is someone catching a fish who didn't expect to enjoy fishing nearly as much as they thought they would.

For experienced anglers, we can focus more heavily on fishing.

For families, I can make it more about giving everyone a chance to participate.

And if fishing isn't your thing, that's completely fine. There's no requirement that you spend your six hours holding a fishing rod.

Instead, we can turn the day toward:

  • Snorkeling and exploring the water.

  • Paddleboarding.

  • Dolphin and wildlife viewing.

  • Cruising the Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach waterways.

  • Relaxing with friends and family.

  • Creating your own party boat tours experience.

That's what makes my trips different from rigid boat tours. I don't want to spend six hours doing something your group doesn't enjoy just because it's written on a package.

Hour Four: Time to Find the Sandbar

By the fourth hour, I usually want everyone to slow things down.

This is when I'd plan some time at a Pompano Beach sandbar whenever conditions and the day's plan make it a good fit.

There's something about getting off the boat, stepping into shallow Florida water, and simply hanging out that makes people forget they're only a few miles from everything.

You can swim, float, paddleboard, snorkel, listen to music, have a drink, and spend time together without worrying about what's next.

For birthday groups, families, friends, and bachelorette boat parties, this can easily become one of the highlights of the entire day.

And because it's a private charter, I'm not trying to get your group out of the way to make room for the next group.

We can actually enjoy it.

Hour Five: Cruise, Explore and Enjoy South Florida

After some time at the sandbar, I'd get everyone back aboard and start making our way through the waterways.

This is where I like to remind people that some of the best boat things to do in Fort Lauderdale aren't necessarily about going anywhere specific.

Sometimes it's simply about being on the water.

I'll take you through areas where you can see the homes, boats, bridges, waterfront scenery, and the South Florida lifestyle from an entirely different perspective.

For tourists, this can be one of the best ways to experience the area beyond the usual attractions.

For locals, it can be a reminder that you don't have to travel far to have a completely different kind of day.

Hour Six: Finish With the Experience You Wanted

I don't want the final hour of your trip to feel like we're simply heading back because the clock says it's time.

If you've booked an afternoon trip, I may plan the timing so we can finish with the sunset.

My sunset cruises Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach guests enjoy can be especially memorable because the entire day builds toward that final stretch on the water.

If you're celebrating a birthday, we'll make the ending part of the celebration.

If you're with your closest friends, we'll keep the music going.

If you're on a romantic getaway, we can slow everything down and enjoy the scenery.

And if your group is coming back from a day of private fishing, we'll have plenty of stories to talk about on the way home.

The Best Part? I Can Change the Plan

Here's something I want every potential guest to understand before booking with me:

Your six-hour charter doesn't have to follow the exact schedule I just described.

That's only how I'd plan a balanced day if you asked me to create one.

  • Maybe you want four hours of private fishing and two hours at the sandbar.

  • Maybe you want almost no fishing and want to spend most of the day swimming and cruising.

  • Maybe you're planning a bachelor party cruise and want the entire day to revolve around the group.

  • Maybe you're organizing bachelorette boat parties and want a combination of cruising, music, swimming, paddleboarding, and sandbar time.

  • Maybe you're visiting South Florida with your kids and want family boat tours that give everyone something to enjoy.

I can work with you to create it.

Your Six Hours Should Feel Like Yours

I've been around South Florida's waterways for decades, and I know there are plenty of ways to spend six hours on a boat.

  • What I want to give my guests is something more personal.

  • I want you to catch your first fish.

  • I want you to experience that moment when dolphins appear alongside the boat.

  • I want you to spend an afternoon floating at the sandbar with a drink in your hand.

  • I want you to celebrate a birthday with people you care about.

  • I want your bachelor or bachelorette group to have a day that's actually worth talking about afterward.

And if you've never been on a private charter before, I want you to finish the day understanding why so many people choose to experience South Florida from the water.

That's why I make every trip completely customizable.
